Apple today announced that over 100,000 apps are available in the App Store, which becomes the largest applications store in the world. Within 16 months, from the day it’s launched in July 2008, the App Store is catering iPhone and iPod touch customers in 77 countries around globe with more than 2 billion downloads. Apps are available in 20 categories, including games, business, news, sports, health, reference and travel.
More than 21,000 games available for iPhone and iPod touch helped these devices to take over prominent position in portable games platform than other devices like, Nintendo DS and Sony PSP.
With increasing number of apps for books, as reported by Flurry, iPhone and iPod touch are making their way into a dominant console in portable e-reader platform too. From the moment App Store launched with 500 apps, iPhone and iPod touch devices have become unstoppable in every aspects of its kind.
It seems like the next milestone is not far away for Apple’s App Store.
